For people who found their purpose, but lost their spark
About me
My name is Ania Sharwood. I help changemakers who do a lot, but feel they’re not achieving enough. Your work serves a higher purpose and I help you discover how to become effective in you work, and how let go of what is not effective. How can they do this to our planet! I was eleven. News of the Gulf War, black rain and the Exxon Valdez oil spill landed on my innocent ears. The activist in me was born. I pledged that when I grew up, I would only work for companies dedicated to fixing this mess.
After studying Zoology (BScHons) at the University of Glasgow, my career started at various NGOs in the fields of conservation and animal welfare. For ten years I enjoyed serving as a relationship manager, fundraiser, communications and campaign manager.
But something was gnawing at me. Why was our message convincing so few people? Weren’t we talking about hugely important issues that affect everyone? I felt out of place, lacking somehow.
To find answers, I decided to broaden my horizons and start my own business. I took on assignments in the areas of human rights, equity & inclusion, and sustainability. I trained as a Deep Democracy facilitator (The Lewis Method), studied Byron Katie’s The Work, took mindfulness trainings (including with Tara Brach & Jack Kornfield), and certified as a Narrative Coach and Hypnotherapist. I mastered strategic storytelling and co-founded a communication training agency for professionals committed to positive social change.
Today, with The Smart Activist, I help changemakers who work hard, but feel they’re not achieving enough. I show them how they can be effective in working on their mission.
